Studio 200 began as one room set up for graphic design. As the focus of the work shifted to mosaic and kilnforming glass; the studio evolved. The original room is now equipped for designing, cutting and laying out work; flameworking, and fused glass classes. The basement holds cold shop equipment. The garage houses the kilns, and an unused bedroom has been re-purposed as a photography studio.
The Spring 2009 series was conceived during the dark months of winter. My goal was to create a unified series of tabletop pieces using only four color palettes. Each color combination would represent elements of the coming seasons. The blue and turquoise palette evoked the cool, brisk quality of early spring. Mosses and ferns inspired another combination. Red, yellow, and green hinted at the bright tulips of the garden and dandelions in the grass. Lastly, a multi-colored scheme was based on the colors of summer at the beach: towels, umbrellas, plastic picnic ware, pails and shovels.
Currently, my palette is expanding along with the colors returning to the world outdoors; I am creating elements for the fall/winter collection- pattern bars and blocks, thick and thin stringers, frit boxes and balls.
Classes will start up in the Fall. Check back in July for more information.
Enjoy the summer,
